Staff Recovered From COVID-19

*UPDATED 3-4-21*

Saint Andrew Catholic School reopened school to students for in-person instruction on Wednesday, August 19. Our planning team worked hard over the summer to prepare for the safety of our students and staff in the 2020-2021 school year. We invite community members to review our extensive health & safety plan. Our guidance for reopening was provided by the CDC, PDE, and Diocese of Harrisburg. This plan is a fluid document and will change as new guidance is given from the above entities. No matter the situation, we will be prepared for all scenarios in the 2020-21 school year.

Dear SACS Family & Community Members,

We just began our 18th week of in-person instruction for the 2020-21 school year. Despite a small outbreak in September, SACS has been very successful in mitigating the transmission of COVID-19 among staff and students. This is in large part due to the vigilance our of parents as well as our commitment to follow the protocols and procedures set forth in our Health & Safety Plan. At this time we have zero students who have reported as being positive for COVID-19in the last 14 days. We currently have 30 students and one 1 staff member who are quarantining for exposures outside of school, travel, or by choice to keep family members safe. These students are learning through our virtual option and continue to stay connected with our in-person students and staff on a daily basis.

Although SACS continues to make strides with combating the spread of COVID-19, the Diocese of Harrisburg has strongly urged that each school move to planned virtual learning for the first week of January only (January 4-8). The logic behind this decision is that we know many families will spend the Christmas holiday together. Many may have families members visiting and many may be planning to travel. To combat having a large percentage of students in quarantine after the break, we feel it is safest to learn virtually that week so that every child and staff member reaches the recommended 10 day quarantine before returning to school. SACS will take part in this virtual learning week. We will continue to do our best with mitigating the spread of COVID-19 as we head into 2021. The health and safety of our entire school community is at the forefront of this decision.

We are truly blessed with such wonderful SACS families. Thank you for being part of our school community. We sincerely thank you for all your support this year. We wouldn’t be successful without you.

God Bless,

Lindsay J. Salmon

Saint Andrew Catholic School Principal

Saint Andrew Catholic School is dedicated to providing an in-person learning experience for as long as safely possible. In the event that we would need to move to a virtual model for a short or long term basis, we will use the Google Classroom Learning Platform. Live instruction with classroom teachers will take place between 8:40 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. Independent assignments will be reserved for the afternoon so that teachers can work in small groups or independently with struggling learners.

Mrs. Anderson, Parent of 8th Grader

Bravo! Your team is doing an excellent job with this transition. Great messaging. Great flexibility. Great positive attitude.

Mrs. McSherry, Parent of Kindergartner

If the rest of the country could see how Saint Andrew Catholic school has handled this, it would set a new bar for academia.

Mr. & Mrs. Diana, Parents of 6th Grader

Saint Andrew went above and beyond during this time of unrest to continue teaching our children and for keeping us informed of any changes that may affect us.

Mr. & Mrs. Wolfinger,
